​XVI Lunov Readings

On March 27, 2025, the Faculty of History hosted the XVI All-Ukrainian Scholarly Conference Lunov Readings under the theme "Museum, Library, and Archival Repositories: History, Contemporary Challenges, and Innovations."

Scholars from higher education institutions, museum, library, and archival professionals, as well as local historians from Kharkiv and the region, the D. I. Yavornytsky Dnipropetrovsk National Historical Museum (Dnipro), the Vasyl Krychevsky Poltava Regional Museum of Local Lore, the “Bilske Historical and Cultural Preserve” of the Poltava Regional Council, and students of the Faculty of History at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, among others, took part in the conference.

The participants were welcomed by Associate Professor Serhii Dmytrovych Lytovchenko, Dean of the Faculty of History, and Professor Serhii Ivanovych Posokhov, Head of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology, and Chair of the Association of Museum Staff of Higher Education Institutions in Kharkiv.

The A. F. Lunov Prize was presented by Associate Professor Olha Hryhorivna Pavlova of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology, Head of the D. I. Bahalii Department of Ukrainian Studies at the P. T. Tronko Center for Ukrainian Studies and Regional History. The A. F. Lunov Prize was established in 2011 by Kharkiv artist Nina Semenivna Verbuk. This year’s prize took the form of a graphic artwork titled Celebration, created using the artist's signature technique.

During the plenary session, an historical-geographical map titled “Karazin Region of Kharkiv” (authors: O. I. Vovk, V. A. Peresadko; compiler: A. V. Piliuhin. Kharkiv: V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, 2025) was presented by Olha Ihorivna Vovk, Lecturer at the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology and Deputy Director of the P. T. Tronko Center for Ukrainian Studies and Regional History. Additionally, Olha Yosypivna Denysenko, Head of the Department at the Kharkiv Art Museum, presented the book "Serhii Vasylkivskyi: Album-Catalogue" (ed. Taras Lozynskyi. Lviv: Institute of Ukrainian Art Collection Studies at the Shevchenko Scientific Society, 2024. 376 pages, illustrated).

The conference was held online and included two thematic panels: “Current Issues in the Preservation of National Heritage Objects. Collection Repositories: Past and Present” and “Urgent Challenges in Preserving Cultural Heritage Sites under Force Majeure Conditions.” Nearly 20 presentations were delivered. The discussions focused on the organization of storage for museum, archival, and library collections in both historical and contemporary contexts, with particular attention to the current conditions of martial law.

Based on the results of the XVI Lunov Readings, the recipient of the A. F. Lunov Prize was announced: Professor Serhii Mykhailovych Kudelko, Head of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology and Director of the P. T. Tronko Center for Ukrainian Studies and Regional History.
