Lecture by Kostiantyn Peliashenko, Researcher at the Museum of Archaeology of V.N.Karazin Kharkiv National University

On 15 July 2026, as part of the online archaeological field practice, Kostiantyn Peliashenko, a researcher at the Museum of Archaeology of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, delivered a lecture entitled “Satellite Monitoring of Archaeological Sites and the Documentation of Damage Caused by Military Activities.”

During the lecture, the speaker outlined the potential of satellite monitoring and introduced the participants to free software and open-access satellite data that can be used in the study of archaeological sites. Particular attention was devoted to the practical application of satellite monitoring in archaeological research.

Using the example of an ancient burial mound complex near Northern Saltivka, Kostiantyn Peliashenko demonstrated the main stages of the monitoring process. He explained how identified changes and damage can be documented and showed how the resulting data can be processed and visualised using GIS technologies.

The lecture generated lively discussion and considerable interest among the participants.
