On May 21, 2025, the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Cultural Studies, and History of Science at the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” hosted the successful defense of two dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of History and Archaeology. Both studies, situated within the domain of historical biography, were prepared by graduates of the Faculty of History at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University who are now professionally engaged in archival and museum work in the city of Kharkiv.
Yuliia V. Koval, Deputy Director and Chief Custodian of the Central State Scientific and Technical Archive of Ukraine, defended her dissertation entitled “Scientific-Educational, Organizational, and Public Activity of Academician M. P. Barabashov (1894–1971) of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR” (supervised by Prof. Olha Ye. Tverytnykova). Her official opponent was Prof. Serhii M. Kudelko from the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology.
Yuliia V. Bilas, a staff member of the Museum Complex of the O. M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy and a graduate of our department, presented her dissertation on “The Life, Creative Legacy, and Public Activity of S. V. Pylypenko (1891–1934)” (supervised by Prof. Volodymyr M. Skliar and Assoc. Prof. Ihor V. Dvorkin — also an alumnus of our department). Her official opponent was Olha I. Vovk, lecturer in the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology.
Both dissertations received unanimous approval from the members of the specialized academic councils.
