Educational Archaeological Fieldwork Program Begins

On 1 July 2026, students of the School of History began their educational archaeological fieldwork program. The remote component of the program, based at the Museum of Archaeology of V.N.Karazin Kharkiv National University, is coordinated by Associate Professors V.Skyrda and Yu.Kiselova of the Department of Historiography, Heritage Studies, and Archaeology.

The remote component includes online meetings with archaeologists, conservators, and specialists in cultural heritage preservation. Students will also engage with scholarly literature, popular science videos, and digital resources while becoming familiar with the work of museums and other institutions involved in archaeological research and the preservation of archaeological heritage.

In August, first-, second-, and third-year students, under the supervision of Associate Professor I.Shramko, will participate in the field component of the program by taking part in archaeological excavations at the Bilsk Hillfort. This fieldwork will provide students with practical training in archaeological methods, including excavation techniques and the documentation and analysis of archaeological finds.

We wish all participants a productive and rewarding fieldwork experience and many exciting discoveries.
