​The 43rd International Local Lore Conference for Young Scholars Has Concluded

On November 28, 2025, the School of History of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University hosted the 43rd International Local Lore Conference of Young Scholars “History and the Present of Local Lore Studies”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the organizational formation of the local lore movement in Ukraine.

Representatives of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology took an active part in the organization and conducting of the event. Professor of the Department Serhii Kudelko and Lecturer Olha Vovk were Deputy Chairmen, while the Head of the Department, Prof. Serhii Posokhov, and Associate Professor Olha Pavlova were members of the Conference Organizing Committee; Associate Professor Yevhen Rachkov chaired one of the sections.

On the eve of the conference, Olha Vovk and student activists laid flowers at the memorial plaque of the patriarch of Ukrainian local lore, Hero of Ukraine, Academician P. T. Tronko.

At the plenary session, participants were greeted by the Dean of the Historical Faculty of Karazin University, Serhii Lytovchenko, and the Acting Director of the M. F. Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum, Olha Soshnikova. The Head of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology, Prof. Serhii Posokhov, in his address, spoke about the connections of Academician P. T. Tronko with Kharkiv region and Kharkiv University and shared his own memories and impressions of this outstanding person.

The work of the conference continued in seven sections, which altogether gathered more than 70 participants from Ukraine and abroad.

Students of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology demonstrated a high level of preparation and received deserved awards for it. Vitalii Merkulov (academic supervisor – Prof. Serhii Kudelko) became a laureate of the Hero of Ukraine, Academician P. T. Tronko Prize, Ihor Babak (academic supervisor – Assoc. Prof. Olha Pavlova) – a laureate of the A. H. Sliuzarskyi Prize. The A. F. Lunov Creative Prize was awarded to Olena Tykhonova (academic supervisor – Assoc. Prof. Olha Pavlova). Lidiia Kuzmenko (academic supervisor – Assoc. Prof. Olha Pavlova) was awarded a certificate of merit for the best research in the section “Local Historical Aspects of Art Studies and Museology”.
