A lecturer of the department gave an open lecture on the contribution of Kharkiv University scientists to the development of world science

On August 20, 2025, Olha Vovk, a lecturer of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies and Archaeology, at the invitation of the Department of Scientific and Information Support of Innovation Processes of the Kharkiv Korolenko State Scientific Library, gave a lecture “Ten discoveries of Kharkiv researchers that changed the world’s perception”.

The speaker focused on the work of scientists whose biographies were connected with Kharkiv University. Among them are mathematician Oleksii Pohorielov and physicist Lev Landau, physiologist Ilia Mechnikov and biologist Lev Tsenkovsky, historian Mykola Kostomarov and philologist Oleksandr Potebnia and many others. Their innovative ideas contributed to the understanding of the physical world on Earth and in space, the study of living nature, the understanding of the patterns of development of the social sphere in the past and present. Olha Vovk emphasized that the discoveries made by V. N. Karazin Kharkiv University scientists not only added new facts to the treasury of scientific knowledge, but also changed the very perception of the world, influenced human thinking and the development of society.

The lecture, which gathered more than 30 listeners in an offline format, became part of the educational cycle “Outstanding Events and Figures in the History of Science and Technology”, dedicated to Kharkiv City Day.
