​All-Ukrainian Scholarly Conference "The Museum in the Era of Metamodernism: Contemporary Challenges and New Horizons" (within the framework of the 31st Sumtsov Readings)

Conference program

On April 18, 2025, the All-Ukrainian Scholarly Conference "The Museum in the Era of Metamodernism: Contemporary Challenges and New Horizons" was held at the M. F. Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum as part of the 31st Sumtsov Readings. The event was dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the museum and took place on the birthday of the prominent Ukrainian scholar, ethnographer, historian, folklorist, educator, and public figure Mykola Fedorovych Sumtsov. Moreover, the conference coincided with the International Day for Monuments and Sites and the Day of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Ukraine.

The conference’s organizing committee included Prof. Sergiy Posokhov, Head of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology, and Prof. Sergiy Kudelko, also of the same department and Director of the P. T. Tronko Center for Ukrainian Studies and Local History at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

More than 60 participants from museums, research institutions, and higher education establishments from across all regions of Ukraine took part in the conference. The presentations addressed urgent issues such as the preservation of cultural heritage during wartime, innovative approaches to museum exhibitions, digital tools and virtual environments, and the museum as a space of memory and volunteer engagement.
