​Honoring the 110th Anniversary of Petro Tronko’s Birth

On July 12, 2025, in Kyiv there were events commemorating the 110th birth anniversary of the patriarch of Ukrainian local history, Hero of Ukraine, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the first head of University Board of Overseers of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Petro Tronko. The ceremony took place under the auspices of the National Union of Local History of Ukraine. Kharkiv region was represented at these events by Olha Vovk, a lecturer at Karazin University’s Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology, and Deputy Head of the Kharkiv Branch of the National Union of Local History of Ukraine.

In the morning, flowers were laid at academician P. T. Tronko’s grave at Baikove Cemetery. The ceremony was attended by Oleksandr Reyent, Head of the National Union of Local History of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Deputy Director of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; P. T. Tronko’s daughter; and representatives of local history activists from many regions of Ukraine.

Subsequently, a solemn meeting of the Presidium of the National Union of Local History of Ukraine was held. The event was organized at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, in the creation of which P. T. Tronko directly participated. A ceremony for awarding the laureates of the Academician P. T. Tronko Prize took place. New local history publications and a film dedicated to the anniversary were presented. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the current museum exhibitions.
