On April 15, 2025, a meeting of the Art Historians' Circle took place at the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology. The presentation, titled "Cultural Life and Art of Kharkiv in the Pages of 'Yuzhnyi Krai' Newspaper," was delivered by Oleksandra Vorobieva, a first-year graduate student.
In her presentation, Oleksandra examined the cultural and artistic life of Kharkiv at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, as reflected in the pages of the "Yuzhnyi Krai" newspaper. The speaker emphasized the specific nature of source-based research and the informational potential of the newspaper as a valuable source for investigating this topic.
She particularly focused on materials related to the organization of art education in Kharkiv, especially the activities of the art school founded by M.D.Raievska-Ivanova. Oleksandra also analyzed evaluations of the work of artists, reports on exhibitions, and other significant aspects of the cultural life of the time.
We are grateful to Oleksandra for her engaging presentation and to all those present for their active participation in the discussion.
